AVA SERRA (they/she)

…is a non-binary writer based in the United States. Their first poetry collection fixates on interactions between a menstruating body and non-binary identity. Conversing with the likes of Mina Loy, Leila Chatti, Akwaeke Emezi, and Monica Youn, this work further demystifies menstrual disorder.

More broadly, their poetry illustrates domestic sapphic joy, personal reconciliation with displaced Boricua culture, and abuse survival confessionalism. They occasionally venture into long-form fiction, with a queer, high fantasy novel currently in the works.

Their works appear in multiple anthologies and have been published in Salt Hill Journal, SoFloPoJo, Grey Sparrow, Puerto Del Sol, Lavender Review, among others. Recognitions include a Pushcart Prize nomination and an award from the Academy of American Poets.

They hold an MFA in Creative Writing - Poetry from the University of Maryland.
